Jack Berlin graduated from the Academy of Music in Krakow, Poland, where he received a Master of Music degree with an emphasis in Percussion Instruments under the direction of Stanislaw Welanyk. Later on he attended and graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL obtaining a M.A. in Percussion Performance under the direction of Michael Burritt. He received a Music Education certificate from Elmhurst College.
Prior to leaving his native Poland to come to America, Jack gained international acclaim for his 10-year involvement with the Krakow Percussion Group, performing in Germany, Holland, Czech, Slovakia and Poland. Through his successful music career Jack has performed as a soloist and has formed part of numerous chamber, symphonic, and jazz ensembles. He took part in many prestigious music festivals such as “Warsaw Autumn”, “Poznan Spring”, “Days of Percussion Music Opole”, “Bratislava/Melos Etos”, “Munich-Musica Viva”, “Amsterdam-VPRO Radio 4 Festival”, “Music Biennale Berlin”
He participated in many recordings such as: “Ancestral Rites of Forgotten Culture” by A.I. Rossi… (piece awarded with First Prize of International Composers’ Tribune Paris’ 85), “Silence and Sound” for Polish and French television (with special guest apperance of John Cage), B. Schaefer “Matan for 3 Percussionists” (piece recorded live during “Warsaw Autumn Festival”).
He took part in recordings for “Old Theater” and Bagatela Theater” in Krakow, Poland.
Jack is also active as a music teacher, Band Director and drums/percussion teacher in Chicago Public Schools.
